PMW-F55 • S35mm 4K CMOS Imager • 4,096 x 2,160, 11.6M total pixel, 8.9M effective pixel, Bayer Pattern • “Global Shutter” for eliminating “Jello-effect” and “Flash-band” • 4K 60p, HD 180p HFR for Super Slow-motion • High sensitivity (ISO 1250) and low noise (S/N 57dB w/NR off) PMW-F5 • S35mm 4K CMOS Imager • 4,096 x 2,160, 11.6M total pixel, 8.9M effective pixel, Bayer Pattern • HD 120p HFR for Super Slow-motion • High sensitivity (ISO 2000) and low noise (S/N 57dB w/NR off) like F3 So how does that compare against the Sony F65? F65 • S35mm 8K CMOS Imager • 20M total pixel, 19M effective pixel, Bayer Pattern • “Mechanical Rotary Shutter” for eliminating “Jello-effect” and “Flash-band” • 4K, 120p HFR for Super Slow-motion • High sensitivity (ISO 800) In short, the F65 is by far the best camera for high-resolution image capture – ie. feature films with heavy grading and visual effects work. I would therefore guess that Sony will re-pitch the F65 camera against the new Red Epic “Dragon” sensor with a future roadmap commitment to 8K! For run of the mill feature films, commercials and television work then the new Sony cameras will come in to play. With what looks like an “enhanced” version of the CMOS sensor in the NEX-FS700, its clear that these cameras will lock horns with the Canon C500 (PMW-F5) and the Arri Alexa/Codex combo (PMW-F55).
