Sony Announces the PXW-FS5 at IBC 2015

Sony have been teasing us over the past few days by releasing an image suggesting a new item to the Sony line up, on the 8th September they announced it would be called the FS5, and today we finally got a chance to meet it..

Weighing in at a remarkable 0.8kg (body only) this camera is less than half of the FS7! We met up with Darren Thompson-Allott from Sony who answered all of our questions on this great new addition to the Sony Family.

Philip answers – “Should I go to IBC?”

I can’t tell you a definitive yes or no here but I can at least help give you some valuable information to help you make your mind up.

First off, Is someone paying for you to go? Then the answer is simple, yes! Never turn down a freebie like this. Most of my hesitations about going are pretty much all based on it being self funded. Is it worthwhile? What will you get out of it? Is it better than BVE or NAB? Well most of these questions are subjective and are different depending on you.

When will I get my Blackmagic camera?

The word “Blackmagic” instantly implies that there might be something of a mystique surrounding either the company, their products or even both, so we probably shouldn’t be offended or even surprised to learn that despite constantly badgering Blackmagic for more and clearer information on behalf of our customers we are currently completely in the dark with respect to the true date on which the new Pocket Cinema Camera and 4K Cinema Camera will actually ship, let alone the volume of stock we are likely to receive when that day arrives.
