Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K Gimbal Compatibility Test

This week we held our ‘Be Wise Stabilise’ Gimbal event at our CVP Midlands office in Studley with the likes of the DJI Ronin-S, Ronin 2, Ronin MX, Zhiyun Crane 2, Crane Plus and FeiyuTech A2000 on hand to test.

We were also lucky enough to finally get our hands on one of the first Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K’s in the country. We will have our full review of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K in the coming days, so keep an eye out for that but in the meantime, we decided to use our gimbal event to do a quick test to see which gimbals the camera works with. Our setup for this test was our showroom Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K with a Canon 35mm f1.4L lens and a  Metabones EF to MFT Speed Booster. The total weight of our setup was 1.5kg.

DJI Ronin-S

First up was DJI’s Ronin-S, we attached the camera mounting plate, that’s included with the Ronin-S, to the Pocket Cinema Camera and we then used an arca type quick release plate to mount onto the Ronin-S to offset the mounting point and then adjusted the various axis to get the correct balance.

As mentioned we mounted using an arca style quick release plate but you can also use the camera riser plate that comes included with the Ronin-S which will do the same.

ZhiyunTech Crane 2

The ZhiyunTech Crane 2 we mounted exactly the same as we did with the Ronin-S using the same arca quick release plate attached to the gimbal.

Feiyu-Tech A2000

To mount the Pocket Cinema Camera to Feiyu-Tech’s A2000 we had to flip the gimbal so the tilt motor was on the opposite side as the pocket camera is shorter on the left side. We were however able to mount the camera using the plate included with the gimbal without using an additional quick release plate.

Another option instead of using the additional quick release plate that we used would be to use a cage such as 8Sinn’s Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K Camera Cage and get creative with your own set up.

We will shortly be testing whether the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K is able to mount onto the Gudsen MOZA AirCross and ZhiyunTech Crane Plus. We’re also looking forward to getting our hands on the new ZhiyunTech Weebil Lab and Gudsen MOZA Air 2 and putting them to the test with the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K.

If you are interested in testing out the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K please subscribe to our event notifications or contact our demo team at demo@cvp.com

  1. I’d love to see you test out the EVO Rage 3! I like how it includes a focus drive. When I reached out to their customer service they said the Pocket 4K was too wide. I’m curious to see if it would work with the same adjustments you’ve made to the ones in the article. Thanks for doing all these tests!
