Canon have today taken their first steps into the full frame mirrorless market with the announcement of the Canon EOS R range. The EOS R features a brand new RF mount, 30.3MP Dual Pixel CMOS AF sensor with a maximum of 5655 manually selectable AF points.
At the heart of the new EOS R system is the RF mount, designed to deliver the ideal combination of speed, durability and flexibility in optical design for excellent performance and future system expansion. Canon have initially released four RF lenses, including an industry first 28-70mm f2.
The Canon EOS R features a full-frame 30.3 Megapixel Dual Pixel CMOS AF sensor which focuses without compromise thanks to its advanced phase detection system allowing the user to select between 5655 AF positions.
The EOS R offers a comfortable and familiar EOS handgrip with a high degree of customisation, superb weather proofing and vari-angle screen. The camera features a dot-matrix LCD panel on top to check the camera status and settings with ease. A multi-function touch bar also allows easy customisation of various camera settings with a swipe or tap.
Operating in light as low as EV-6, the EOS R camera’s ultra-sensitive AF delivers amazing performance in remarkably dark areas.
For those of you interested in the video capabilities of the EOS R you are able to shoot 4K up to 30fps or Full HD 1080p up to 60fps. Focus with Dual Pixel CMOS Autofocus and deliver stunning 4K video footage via a HDMI output in 10-bit for the ultimate in high quality and grading possibilities.
The EOS R boasts Canon Log, a recording setting that captures footage in neutral contrast with up to 12-stops of dynamic range at ISO 400 allowing post production grading to extract every subtle nuance of colour and detail in shadow and highlights. Additionally, advanced Digital Movie IS provides 5-axis image stabilisation, giving the ultimate in smooth, shake free footage.
A brand new mount means new lenses and Canon have released four new lenses. All RF lenses feature a control ring that lets you assign features and quickly change settings without having to use the main dial or quick control dial on the camera body.
