Panasonic have just announced the AG-AF101A series mFT (micro Four-Thirds) camcorder with Full HD progressive recording and 10-bit / 4:2:2 live output via HD-SDI.
This addresses the major criticism of the AF101 which featured only 8-bit output via the HD-SDI terminal.
Key Features:
- 1080 60p/50p Recording/Playback
- 1080 60p/50p HDMI output
- Expand Focus Assist Function
- SDI: 10-bit out
- 2.39:1 safety zone marker
The AG-AF101EJ is now discontinued and has been replaced by the AG-AF101AEJ.
For highest quality external recording via the camera’s live output function use either the Panasonic AG-HPD24 or a third party DDR such as a Cinedeck Extreme.

Have there been any other tweaks made other than those mentioned above? ie sensor, OLPF or signal processing? is there a press release from panasonic?
No, it’s minor revisions only…
The Panasonic DMC-GH3 actually contains the next generation mFT sensor that we wish had been part of the AF101A upgrade… GH3 also records at up to 72Mb/s internally!
